Gift

Wan En’s father’s leg bone was broken. When he was sent to the hospital, Wan En’s mother attended to him at the hospital every day. Wan En was still small at that time and she did not like to be away from her parents. Therefore, she also stayed by her father’s side at the hospital.

As the Christmas holidays drew near, many churches were preparing to celebrate Christmas. People from other Christian denominations also brought some delicious food to the hospital as a Christmas gift to the patients.

People from other Christian denominations wanted to give some food to Wan En’s father as a Christmas gift, but Wan En’s father told her mother not to accept them. He knew it was wrong to celebrate Christmas so he said, “If we eat their food for celebrating Christmas with them, then it would be as if we are celebrating Christmas with them.”

Wan En’s mother thought to herself that it was only food and not something offered to idols, so it was not a big deal. She felt that it would be rude not to accept their kindness, so she accepted their gift.

When Wan En’s father saw that they accepted the gift, he told them not to eat it, because it “contained yeast”. They should not have accepted the gift. Wan En’s mother did not think it was a problem to eat it and it would be a waste if they gave it to others or threw it away. Then Wan En’s mother gave some to her to eat and brought some back home to give to her sisters. After they ate of the food given to them that’s when the trouble started. The next day Satan came for their family.

The first night, Wan En’s second eldest sister saw an evil spirit as she finished her prayer and lay down to sleep. She only saw two eyes, and heard a voice saying, “I’m one of your church members. If you don’t worship me, I’ll harm your dad when you are not around.”

Then the spirit started to sing hymn 245. He sang it so poorly and completely out of tune. It must have been because he wanted to prove that he was one of our church members. Wan En’s sister did not believe him. She cast him out in the name of the Lord Jesus.

The second night when they were praying, Wan En saw another vision. However, this time, it was not the vision of the beautiful, kind angels (like her past experience), but detestable evil spirits. In her prayer, she saw an evil spirit with his wife along with their big group of children, and they were coming towards her. As she saw them, she became afraid and shouted, “Hallelujah!” When she did this, the spirit and his family all paused for a short while. The word “Hallelujah” truly carries power!

After pausing for a short while, the evil spirit family continued approaching her. She again shouted, “Hallelujah!” The family paused again before continuing to walk towards her. Wan En was very nervous and scared now! The evil spirit then came before Wan En and said to her, “Little sister! Our whole family is coming to live in your house! You have to worship us, or we will hurt your mom.” Wan En’s father did not eat the Christmas gift so he was not a target. When she heard this, she shouted out with fear, and said, “Oh, Lord Jesus! Please come quickly to rid us of these spirits!”

The Lord Jesus listened to her prayer. He sent down so many angels and they carried swords in their hands to fight with the evil spirits. The battle was intense, and the little spirits were shouting, “Go! Go! Fight! Fight!” Wan En was watching so intently that she forgot to cheer for the angels. In fact, the angels did not need anyone to cheer for them, because the one true God had already given them enormous power so they could triumph over the evil spirits.

The angels prevailed over the family of evil spirits and put them all in a transparent prison one by one. They were all locked away in this prison. The angels had completed their job and flew back to heaven.

Not long after, the evil spirits jumped out one by one from the transparent prison. Wan En thought that there must be a hole in the prison somewhere so that was why they could jump out and escape. Actually, it was because Wan En and her family ate what they were not supposed to and had left a foothold for the devil to trouble them. That was why the family of evil spirits could come and scare them in the first place.

When they came out of the prison, Wan En saw that this time they were all extremely ugly! They had eyes and a mouth, but no nose! “How do they breathe without a nose?” she asked herself, shuddering. They were so ugly!

Wan En was still young and still in Elementary 1. She did not know that evil spirits do not need to breathe and neither do angels. Only people, animals and other creatures in this world need to breathe. Since angels and demons are spiritual beings, their bodies are different from ours; they need not breathe, eat, or sleep.

On the third night, Wan En’s third eldest sister slept soundly until midnight. At midnight she was woken up by some frightening noises. The noises were very strange sounding wails. Her older cousin was sleeping together with her and was also woken up by the noise. After they got up they prayed together to cast out the devils. They tried to cast them out for a long while before going back to sleep.

The next morning, Wan En’s mother felt that Satan had been working and pestering her family for the past two to three days so that they had no peace. She knew it was because they ate what they were not supposed to eat; the gift of Christmas food from people of other Christian denominations. As a result, they left a foothold for Satan to work. She decided to fast and pray to ask for God’s forgiveness and to cast out these evil spirits.

She told her children to fast and pray during the lunch hour. Wan En was still little at the time, so when lunch time came she was very hungry and said, “Mama! I’m hungry. I want to eat something.” Her mother replied, “We’ve done wrong, and ate the gift of Christmas food that we should not have eaten, so we will go to God with our empty stomach to say “sorry” to the Lord Jesus. Since we were greedy for food, we fell into Satan’s trap.” Wan En understood her mother’s words and stopped asking for something to eat.

That very night, when Wan En was praying, she asked the Lord Jesus, “Oh Lord Jesus, if you don’t cast out the evil spirits, can you please at least cut off their hands and feet.” The Lord Jesus heard her prayer. The next evening, an angel appeared to her and told her, “Instead of cutting off their hands and feet, the Lord Jesus will cut off their heads.” (Genesis 3:15). The angel even made a beheading gesture with his hands. Wan En saw the hands of the angel, and they were so fine and fair, very beautiful to look at! From then on, Satan no longer pestered their family.

Little children, we should not eat such Christmas gifts, and not be greedy for the items offered for worship by those who do not believe in Jesus. Otherwise, Satan will have an opportunity to harm us.

Little children! What is Christmas?

People from other Christian denominations take December 25th as the birthday of the Lord Jesus and call it “Christmas.” They know that this date is not really the date of the Lord’s birth. No one knows the exact date of the birth of the Lord Jesus. The date is not recorded in the Bible, very possibly because the Lord purposely withheld it from public knowledge to avoid people taking this opportunity to eat, drink, binge and even to commit wrong. We should note that the Lord Jesus never commanded us to remember His birth, but instead he commanded us to often remember that He died for us. During the spiritual convocation when we hold the Holy Communion, it is done in accordance with the example set by the Lord Jesus to commemorate the sacrifice of His life for us.

Before the Lord Jesus came into this world, he was already in heaven, for He is God. There is no real “date of birth” for him. Many people use Christmas as an opportunity to dance, drink, and indulge themselves, sometimes for the entire night. The Lord Jesus is surely displeased with their actions.

We are the good children of the Lord Jesus. We should not celebrate Christmas like them; we should not receive Christmas gifts from others or give Christmas gifts to friends, lest we displease the Lord.
